Roots of the name Jivamukti
‘Jiva is the individual soul and Mukti means liberation. Jivamukti means ‘living liberated’. What the soul is liberated from is individualisation, meaning that we feel separate from the whole of creation. And Enlightenment is really the goal of yoga - ‘oneness of being’ meaning the interconnectedness among and between all beings and things,. That is why the first step in this realisation, the first step towards this Enlightenment is to see the Divine and not to see others. When you do see others do your best not to hurt them. This is called Ahimsa or non-violence and it’s the first step towards liberation towards eternal and everlasting boundless joy and happiness.’-Sharon Gannon
