Quote of the month and recipe archives:
In addition, eating a diet of fruit, vegetables, and whole cereals elevates the body and mind and enables us to listen to the great universal vibrations constantly coming toward us but which we cannot hear when our ears are obstructed. The music of the soul cannot be heard by an ear overloaded with fermentations resulting from the digestion of animal flesh. Carniverous humanity becomes powerless to perceive the higher truths of the self and is prevented from gaining access to the influence of miraculous celestial vibrations. “Gastronomic” dishes laden with pain, make the human being deaf to the subtle call of the soul’s musical energy.
By following a nutritional regimen that is in harmony with the laws of the universe and respectful of life, we open ourselves to the highest sensory perceptions and to higher experiences. We penetrate the infinite world of virtue. Our eyes no longer see the same colours. Our ears detect natures most subtle sounds. The wind in the clouds, the breeze murmuring among the leaves, and the rhythm of the fountain become the most wonderful of symphonies. The doors of contemplation and meditation are wide open to us andwe discover the astonishing music of the inner self. A meatless diet facilitates this opening of the “third ear”, the organ of clairaudience. This subtle organ vibrates at a much higher rate than the physical ear, and, once developed, provides access to the universe of profound listeneing, of listening to the self, where we perceive the finest form of music: the music of the soul. Inner music generates a genuine feeling of plenitude and is the basis of physical and spiritual healing. As long as humans go on ruthlessly killing living creatures they consider inferior, they will neither know health or peace and will be unable to perceive the subtle vibrations of the music of the soul.
From 'Music As Yoga' by Patrick Bernard. This is a great read especially considering the Jivamukti Yoga focus of the month for March is 'Everybody Deserves Music'.

'Where did you get the idea that you aren't allowed to petition the universe with prayer? You are part of this universe. You're a constituent, you have every entitlement to participate in the actions of the universe, and to let your feelings be known.
So put your opinion out there. Make your case. Believe me it will at least be taken into consideration. If you were to write a petition to God right now, what would it say?'

Ayurvedic Recipe For the Season:
Chai Apple Loaf
1/2 cup ghee (or butter) or oil (coconut, olive, sunflower)
1 cup sugar
1 egg (make sure its free range organic)
1/2 cup strong chai tea, cooled
1 cup chopped apples
1/2 cup raisins (optional: soaked in chai tea)
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp each baking soda, ginger and cardamom
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Boil some water and make 1/2 cup strong chai. And while you're at it you might as well make another cup of chai tea to soak the raisins. Leave to soak/steep 15 minute and strain the raisins.
Beat ghee or oil, sugar and egg in a bowl. Stir in cooled tea, then apples and raisins. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, soda, spices and nuts. Stir into batter, mixing only until moistened. Scrape into a greased loaf pan. If you like, top the batter with apple slices. Bake at 350F for 60 to 70 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the centre comes out clean. Let cool slightly before removing from pan. Cut into squares.
Makes 1 loaf. These would make great muffins, too! Just bake for half the time. Serve with (you guessed it) chai tea! |
